11 Spotsylvania Teachers Awarded Educational Development Grants
SEED Grants are available to any employee of Spotsylvania County Schools in the amount of up to $500 for financial assistance for an activity that enhances professional growth.
Fall 2014 grant recipients and their projects are:
Susan Benhase, para-educator at Smith Station Elementary School, for a literacy curriculum course at the University of Mary Washington.
Kristen Parsley, fourth-grade teacher at Harrison Road Elementary School, for the Virginia Children’s Engineering Convention.
Gretchen Tiblin, third-grade teacher at Harrison Road Elementary, for the Virginia Children’s Engineering Convention.
Jenna Conlee, SCOPE teacher at Harrison Road Elementary, for the Virginia Children’s Engineering Convention.
Lori Buckingham, behavior specialist at the Office of Support Services, for a Behavior is Language course at Shenandoah University.
Jessica Carter, special education teacher at Freedom Middle School, for a Special Education Supervision of Program at Regent University.
John Rine Zabanal, orchestra teacher at Riverbend High School/Ni River Middle School, for a Behavior Modification in Music Education course at Florida State University.
Rabah Sbitani, Tech Ed teacher at Massaponax High School, for a children’s engineering course through James Madison University.
Jeremy Webb, Tech Ed teacher at Spotsylvania High School, for a children’s engineering course through James Madison University.
Karen Washington, English teacher at John J. Wright Education and Cultural Center, for the National Youth-At-Risk Conference.
Jeannie Storm, lead bus driver in the transportation department, for Pupil Transportation Specialist certification.
The foundation received 44 applicants for this round of grants. “While all the applicants were worthy, there was adequate funding to award only 10 grants,” staff said. Applications for the next round are due March 27, 2015.
