Local group to present bomba music in Washington

The local Fredericksburg organization Semilla Cultural (Cultural Seed) will be performing at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington on February 23rd at 9:30pm as part of the INTERSECTIONS Festival. Their show “A Journey” will present the Afro Puerto Rican genre of bomba and its variants as they “travel” around the island of Puerto Rico. The show will cover the historical aspects that shaped this music along with live drumming, singing and dancing that is unique to the regions of Mayaguez, Santurce, Loiza and the southern region.

Semilla Cultural is a non-profit organization developing and cultivating a community that embraces Puerto Rican culture and arts. They focus on raising cultural awareness by teaching and performing bomba, as well as educating the community on the historical events that shaped this music.
